MegaCon. Orlando’s (and quite possibly Florida’s) biggest multi-genre geekery convention. I attended my first MegaCon back in 2010, and it has been a staple in my schedule every year since then. I am always amazed at the crowd this convention draws every year, and this being my fifth year in attendance, expected nothing less. And MegaCon definitely delivered, to the tune of something at or more than 75,000 attending! Day passes were sold out on both Saturday and Sunday! Quite the mass of people standing around and about; that is, if you actually made it to the convention center. More after the jump!
Friday was a very chill day at MegaCon. We’re trying to shoot less at conventions and schedule more on-location work, so I only had a total of 10 shoots for the weekend. I had the pleasure of shooting with ZipperTan and BellaVoce whom I have both worked with before, and Iusara a.k.a. Atomica Star, with whom I finally had the chance to shoot with this time! I’ll be debuting their shots later on after we’ve completed our reveal sessions!
Saturday was a totally different beast.
Traffic was terrible. I heard that many people were stuck in traffic for an hour and a half or more coming from the highways feeding into the convention center area. Also, from what I’ve heard, there were many other events going on in the area such as a Mary Kay convention and a cheerleading competition. As a result, I had to reschedule 3 of my shoots to later in the day or to on-location work after the convention. Saturday was as packed as I have ever seen MegaCon. The lines just to get tickets were a couple hours long.
If we weren’t outside of the convention doing our photoshoots, we were inside gunning for bare space to get walkaround photos. Pillars, walls, and bare space were the order of the day. There were a lot of cosplays I could not catch on Saturday mainly because with the amount of people that were walking through the hall, it would be highly inconvenient and quite possibly rude to stem traffic of people to get a photo. We did what we could. :p
We were able to scope out Papanozzi and crew during the chaos and get a couple photos of the group and a few individuals. Spare wall space is invaluable. You can see the group down in the gallery below!
There were also so many League of Legends cosplays about on both Friday and Saturday. I also swear I saw no less that 7 Jinxes running around the convention. I actually just recently started playing LoL in the past few months, mainly because I kept seeing the cosplays at conventions for a couple years now. I’m glad I can identify most of them now. I actually don’t know who the character on the far left is so leave a note in the comments for me if you do know. :] (Apparently, it’s Riot Singed! Thanks to Zach and Tina for letting me know!)
I’m still finishing off my photoshoot sessions (you can see a little preview in the title), so check back here for more of that.
